What are the BI trends for the retail sector? – A summary of implexis’ Business Intelligence Day

On October 8, 2015 implexis GmbH hosted Business Intelligence Day at its premises in Nuremberg. Addressing managers and other professionals, focus of the BI event was on practical examples from the retail sector as well as best practice scenarios and panel discussions on cloud-based data management and data security. Experts answered questions about ensuring data security while using the cloud as well as about big data and machine learning.

What does digital transformation mean for a company’s future processes? In what way does big data influence entrepreneurial decisions today and in the future? How can companies meet these challenges? These and other interesting questions were answered by implexis’ experts and partners. Participants were explained the importance of collecting, analyzing and displaying corporate data to obtain comprehensive information regarding their business processes. These findings, in turn, can be used as a basis for sound decision-making. Developing market advantages is becoming increasingly important for retailers. Organizations want to leverage existing data and to access new - and optimize existing - target groups. BI can be a great opportunity for retailers.

The BI vision of the future

In his presentation The BI Vision of the Future Jürgen Zehent, Team Lead Business Intelligence at implexis, discussed how the cloud and mobile end devices facilitate decentralized data provision anywhere and anytime. Making data accessible in the cloud to decision makers around the clock and on any device is becoming increasingly important. Predictive analytics such as automated sample recognition by machine learning can be used to prepare data-based prognoses. This way, users can identify formerly hidden information and interconnections using automated analyses. Microsoft’s new Datazen tool makes it easy to use data to create dashboards optimized for mobile devices and to support them even offline. Thanks to automatically enhanced analyses and dashboards, retailers can make sound decisions that are transparent and traceable every step of the way without requiring in-depth IT expertise.

Cloud first, mobile first

In their speech Cloud first, mobile first implexis experts Ralf Bußmann, Business Unit Manager Advanced Solutions, and Martin Wolff used live scenarios to demonstrate how dashboards can be created quickly and easily with the click of a button. They also discussed innovations in the field of Power BI where dashboards now can be used interactively. Bußmann and Wolff showed how machine learning makes it possible for Power BI to take individual parameters into consideration for analyses. The speech given by Adrian Hauptmann, Specialist Predictive Analytics at implexis, focused on machine learning and predictive analytics. He explained the two technologies and highlighted their potential and their use to end consumers. Markus Raatz, Managing Director of Ceteris, discussed ways for retailers to use big data to design future IT landscapes and what added value, for example, through machine learning, they can expect.

Participants were very pleased with the event and some of them registered for implexis’ RETAIL FUTURE WORLD, which will take place on October 27, 2015.
